Pillows and Plenty: Donating Brand New Clothing to Youth in Our Community

IMG_5508.JPG

Most of the children we serve are used to hand me down items such as used backpacks, shirts, pants and undergarments to get them through the year. It makes a world of difference to these children to be able to wear brand-new items at least once in a while!

In 2018 we served 54 families with a total of 143 children. We were able to donate the following new items to LaCasa’s Community Closet: boys and girls pajamas underwear, t-shirts, uniform white shirts, navy blue uniform pants, blankets and jackets. In addition, there were school materials such as writing paper, crayons, pencils, highlighters and notebooks.

Our community’s most-in-need families and children received new clothing and school items that they otherwise would not be able to have. We met Antonia and her 5 girls who came in for much needed new clothing and school supplies. Anthony, a single father who has full custody of his two boys aged 3 and 5, was ecstatic to “shop” for his boys. We also met Blanca, a mother of 3 (ages 1, 3 and 5). Her youngest daughter has a heart condition, and mom is the sole provider. When she came to the community closet, she began to cry. She was able to give her three children new items, including jackets.

If you are a family in need, please come in to the La Casa de San Gabriel Community Center to meet with staff.
