Making Winter warm at La Casa

Pillows and Plenty’s Community Closet, located at La Casa de San Gabriel, is up-to-date with items most in need this time of year! Some of our most requested items from families in the community are: pajamas, underwear, jackets, winter gloves, slippers and blankets.

We were so pleased to meet Elizabeth who brought her 4-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son to the Community Closet recently. Elizabeth has been struggling with severe health issues. Any extra money is used to pay for medical care. Through the community closet, Elizabeth’s children received new clothing items such as undergarments, pajamas, school uniforms and new slippers. Seeing her children’s happiness when they received their new clothing brought a huge smile to her face.

Mr. Mendoza was using almost all of his salary to pay for someone to take care of his ill father until the family decided that it would be best for Jose to stop working and take the lead in taking care of the kids and his father, full-time. Their tight budget, however, meant little left for purchasing new clothing. The family’s two sons (age 2 and 4) along with their 5-year-old daughter came to the Community Closet to select new undergarments, pajamas, slippers and blankets.
