Union Station Homeless Services

This year we worked with Union Station Homeless Services in Pasadena to provide basic items to the 43 children, who temporarily reside there. We worked with two branches of Union Station that provide different services to the homeless community.

Euclid Villa

We first visited Euclid Villa Transitional Housing on January 19, 2013. Euclid Villa helps families transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency by providing stable housing for up to two years. The residents receive services to improve their physical, mental and financial well-being. Families pay 30% of their income towards rent and are assisted in saving money towards permanent housing. The children were overjoyed opening their backpacks and pulling out their new pants, shirts, warm jackets, pajamas, undershirts, underwear, socks and a stuffed animal. It was like Christmas in January!

Family Center

On February 6, 2013 we met families living at Union Station’s Family Center. The Family Center provides temporary shelter, up to 90 days, to homeless families. Like Euclid Villa, the parents and children receive support services to assist in their physical, mental and financial well-being. More than 150 homeless parents and children go through the shelter each year.  Just before dinner service, we handed out colorful backpacks filled with new clothing, warm jackets, pajamas, undergarments, socks and a stuffed animal for the children. They were very excited to see the display when they came into the dining hall. The kids were clamoring around the backpacks eagerly waiting for their names to be called. The parents beamed with happiness to see their children excited about their new goodies. Rochelle Sisco, the case manager, was very appreciative and thankful of the additional support we were able to provide to her families.
